What Door Note keeps.

What is stored

• What you type into a board: the shop name, the optional address line, the time zone, the weekly hours and your notices. All of it is public on your board’s page, widget, sign and feed — that is the point of it. Do not put private information in a notice.
• Your edit link, only as a one-way scrambled copy (a SHA-256 hash). We cannot read it back or resend it.
• A scrambled copy of your connection’s address, with a daily count, only to limit how many boards one connection can make. These rows are deleted after two days.
• Ordinary web server logs (address, time, page), kept by the server for security.

Cookies

One cookie, only on pages with a form, to protect the form from being sent by another site. No tracking or advertising cookies and no analytics services. The only outside script any page loads is the adengine.us banner on the home, pricing and about pages, described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total. Boards, door signs, the website widget and the feed show no ads and load nothing from other sites.

Advertising

The home, pricing and about pages show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind Door Note. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services. Boards, door signs, the widget, the feed, your edit pages, this page and the terms show no ad.

To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.

• No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
• How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
• What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
• Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
• Nothing about you is sold or shared.

How long

Notices are deleted 30 days after their end date. A board nobody has changed for 400 days is deleted with its notices. You can delete a board yourself at any time from its edit page; it is gone at once.

Payments

None are taken during preview. When payments open they will go through PayPal; Door Note will keep only the subscription’s reference and status, never card details.
